Honest answers to common questions

General information about visas and working with a Registered Migration Agent. For advice about your specific situation, book a consultation.

Can you guarantee my visa will be granted?

No. Visa decisions are made by the Department of Home Affairs, and no agent — registered or otherwise — can guarantee an outcome, a processing time or a success rate. Be very cautious of anyone who promises you a visa. What a good agent provides is an honest assessment of your prospects and a complete, well-prepared application.

Why use a Registered Migration Agent at all?

In Australia it is generally unlawful for someone who is not registered (or otherwise exempt, such as an Australian legal practitioner) to give immigration assistance. Registered agents are regulated by OMARA, bound by a Code of Conduct, required to put fees in writing, and subject to a formal complaints process. You also get the practical benefit: someone who works with the system every day, preparing your case properly the first time.

How long will my visa take to process?

Processing times are set by the Department and vary by visa type, time of year and the circumstances of each case. The Department publishes indicative processing times on its website. We'll always tell you what's typical — but we won't promise dates, because nobody honestly can.

How much does it cost?

There are two parts: government charges (set by the Department, payable whether or not you use an agent) and professional fees (which depend on the complexity of your matter). Before any paid work begins you receive a written statement of services and fees. More about fees.

Do you work with clients in Spanish?

Sí. Jack works directly with clients in Spanish — consultations, documents and case updates. The entire website is also available in Español.

I'm overseas. Can you still help me?

Yes. The practice is based in Melbourne but works with clients across Australia and internationally. Consultations are available online, and most matters can be handled entirely remotely.

My visa was refused. Is it over?

Not necessarily. Depending on the circumstances there may be review rights or alternative pathways — but timeframes for review can be short, so get advice quickly. We'll give you a frank view of whether further steps are worth pursuing.

What should I bring to a consultation?

Anything relevant to your situation: passport details, previous visa history and any refusal letters, qualifications and work history, and details of family members included in your plans. Don't worry if you don't have everything — we'll tell you what matters for your case.

How do I verify your registration?

Search MARN 2518883 on the public Register of Migration Agents at mara.gov.au. We encourage every prospective client to check — for any agent they're considering.
